What is a packing list?
A packing list details how a shipment is packed: the carton count, what is in each, and the net weight, gross weight and volume (CBM). Freight forwarders, carriers and customs use it to verify the cargo, plan loading and check the bill of lading against the goods.

What is the difference between a packing list and a commercial invoice?
A commercial invoice states the value of the goods (for customs and payment); a packing list states the physical packing — weights, dimensions and carton counts — and carries no prices.
Do I need to show weights on a packing list?
Yes — net and gross weight per line and as a total are standard, because carriers price and plan loading by weight and volume, and customs may verify against them.
